Group Exhibition

This is a group exhibition I put together with fellow students in my class at university. This just is about explaining the process and the tutors comments and views on the work.

We decided the theme to this exhibition was the 1920s. We wanted to create something based around that but that could also be interactive with the audience. We started off with painting on some curtains that I brought from the charity shop. When doing that we was filming our selves creating this working to make a time lapse that we could use later on in the exhibition.

When putting the exhibition up we thought we was only going to hang the curtains up on the wall and happy days that was it. Although, it turn out not to be like that. Once we got one curtain up we started discussing with tutors what we should do with the other one. After playing about and seeing the different places we could put it. We decided that the best idea was to actually hang it from the ceiling. This actually made the exhibition more interactive with the viewer. From their we decided the curtains wasn't enough on it own, so we decided to add our own individual pieces of work into it. Hiding some under the curtains so the viewer would have to move the curtains to see the full work. We had face some issues with the projector and trying to get it to play the film but once we sorted it it was up and ready. W e did want to project it on the the curtains but because of health and safety we ended up projecting it in to the corner of the wall which actually look pretty good.

I wasn't in on the feedback day due to self-isolation, so one group member reported back to me what was said by the tutors. The tutors felt that we actually came away from the original 1920s idea and that it became more of a compilation of our individual work, feeding off each other. They liked that the work was interactive with the curtains being there and having to look for the work in it. The time lapse shows togetherness as we completed the work with our own individual design. Overall, I feel like yes we did come away from this 1920 idea but still kept aspects of it present. We had faced a lot of technical issues when putting it up but we were able to overcome them with help. Us deciding to bring our work into it, allowed us to show our individual style within the shared piece we did. In my proposal I mentioned a lot about wanting something interactive with the audience and we were able to achieve this. There are always factors like needing more time, I don't feel time was a factor for us because we did end up achieving more than what we expected. If we had a bigger space or even a space where there was less light we could of experimented more with the projector on the curtains or in different place. We could of even had the projector in a completely different space. Overall, I am pleased with the outcome of what me and my group was able to achieve in a short amount of time.
